We are physically and spiritually linked to one another.

Take the example of the International Space Station.
A profound example of global scientific unity, 25 years of peaceful, collaborative human habitation in space, run jointly by nations that are geopolitical rivals like USA and Russia.

Since the first resident crew arrived on November 2, 2000, the station has been continuously occupied, hosting nearly 300 astronauts and cosmonauts from 26 countries.

When humans look down at Earth from 400 kilometers above, they do not see borders—they see a single, fragile blue marble. Up there, cooperation is the only law of survival.

Reflection for the day: If you looked at your community from a bird's-eye view today, what petty divisions would completely disappear?

Saturday book recommendation from the Agora library: “THE LITTLE PRINCE” by Antoine de Saint-Exupery.

“What is essential is invisible to the eye” - Fox tells the little prince😊

Truly a weekend recommendation as this is one of the shortest book but gives us so much to think about.

A children’s fable meant to be read by adults. So please go ahead and read it. Reread if already done.

Antoine de Saint-Exupery was a French aviator. The book was inspired by his flight crash in Libyan desert in 1935.
In 1944 his flight went missing over Mediterranean Sea and with it our great writer.

The true strength of humanity shows up in small, unprompted acts of grace.

Today, we spotlight a heartwarming initiative:

A global network of "Repair Cafés".
In over 2,500 locations in these cafés retired specialists volunteer their time to teach younger generations how to fix broken items for free.

This isn't just about fixing electronics or clothing; it is about older and younger generations sitting together, sharing stories, and fighting consumerism. It is a quiet revolution of connection.

The Repair Café was initiated by Martine Postma. Since 2007, she has been striving for sustainability at a local level in many ways.
Martine organised the very first Repair Café in Amsterdam, on October 18, 2009. It was a great success.

This prompted Martine to start Repair Café International Foundation.

Planned Obsolescence is a business strategy where manufacturers intentionally design products to have a limited lifespan or become outdated quickly. Repair Cafe's challenge these businesses.

Repair Cafés act as a direct grassroots rebellion against planned obsolescence. While manufacturers design products with a limited lifespan to force new purchases, Repair Cafés empower consumers to extend the life of their goods.

Funny fact: These Cafés popped up in INDIA also in Hyderabad, Bangalore and Mumbai too😊. But we are already world famous for 'desi jugaad' meaning 'hack, a workaround, or frugal innovation'. So they have modified their agendas.

Today is the day of Earth and accord - Our common home.

Earth teaches us patience and interconnectedness.

Today, we celebrate a magnificent act of environmental accord: The Great Green Wall Initiative (GGWI) which is still in progress, has successfully restored 18 million hectares of degraded land across the entire breadth of Africa through collaborative cross-border planting.

Over a dozen countries, separated by politics and language, came together to plant a massive forest wall. They are proving that when we work with nature, we heal our divisions.

We are all rooted in the same soil.

The Great Green Wall (GGW) goes beyond ecological restoration; it acts as a massive socio-economic and cultural bridge across Africa.

By shifting its focus from a simple line of trees to a community-driven initiative, the project actively unifies diverse groups, reduces local conflicts, and fosters cross-border collaboration.

This Weekend Reading Recommendation from The Agora library is:
“Braiding Sweetgrass" by Robin Wall Kimmerer.

She is a botanist from a North American tribe called Potawatomi.
The Potawatomi teach their children about the "Seven Grandfather Teachings" of wisdom, respect, love, honesty, humility, bravery, and truth toward each other and all creation.

This book is a philosophical blend of indigenous wisdom and scientific knowledge.
Kimmerer teaches us to view the natural world not as a collection of resources, but as a web of reciprocal relationships.
She writes about how different plants, like corn and beans, grow better when planted together because they support each other’s weaknesses.
It is a stunning natural metaphor for human society: our diversity is not a weakness; it is our ultimate survival mechanism.

It serves as a reminder that we are all capable of the same triumphs, flaws, and experiences.

History books record the actions of kings and politicians, but the world is actually held together by the quiet goodness of ordinary people like you.
Today, we look at a beautiful grassroots movement:
World Central Kitchen (WCK) is one of the most prominent global initiatives fighting poverty and hunger. They deploy emergency rapid-response kitchens to disaster and conflict zones worldwide, serving hot, nourishing meals alongside local chefs and partners.

In these kitchens, language barriers disappear over simmering pots.

Food becomes the bridge.

It reminds us that unity doesn't require complex treaties—it requires a shared table, a shared meal, and an open heart.

Why this blog? What is the agenda?

Good day to everyone

I will try and organise the posts on the themes that are need of the hour in the present day scenario.

You might ask, what is the present day scenario?

For me the only standout problem is we are living in a fragmented world.

Yes. That’s true. FRAGMENTED.

In this group there are people from all walks of life.

Many of you might be from social sciences background. Products of refined institutions and universities. I might sound like an infant to you. Please bear with me friends.

I throw you a task. Wherever you are try and do this task with your best mates, colleagues today.

Here are some words: Race, Skin colour, nationality, language, politics, religion, caste.

Just ask everyone to write down your allegiances and preferences for each of these words.

Circulate their note. You will immediately see a dichotomy.
We are all divided in to “us vs them” or “in group vs out group”.

Proven by the research of social psychologist, Henry Tajfel of Bristol university in his theory “MINIMAL GROUP PARADIGM”.

Most of these divisions are based on fictional themes or imagined realities like Religion, nation, money.

As the historian Yuval Noah Harari pointed out, we live in dual reality: Objective reality (Humans, trees, lions) vs Imagined reality (Religion, nation, corporations like apple, google)

Fragmentation in present day world is happening because imagined realities like religion and corporations are destroying and overpowering objective realities like humans (Middle east conflict), trees (deforestation).

Sometimes these fictional divisions take root in a child before 8 years of age as written by Robert Sapolsky in his book Behave.

Task of this group is to dissolve these fictional boundaries slowly but steadily.

It’s easy to destroy physical boundaries like Berlin Wall. But these Imagined/fictional ones might take generations of efforts.

I have started this effort.

I ask of you the parents, teachers, friends and colleagues who don many roles in your daily life to imbibe these ideas and spread them.

Let’s touch maximum lives.

This work will take centuries to be complete. But we can be proud that we started today.

There are so many stories to tell that unite us. To prevent myself from wandering into the vast expanse of information, I have set a theme for each day of the week.

Tuesday: Bridging the Divide (Stories on resilience, shared humanity)

Wednesday: Our Common Home (Environmental action to save earth)

Thursday: The Mirror of the Mind (Thinkers dialogue)
